It's About to Begin

Well, something big is about to begin. 50 consecutive days of service are going to occur at a small college in North Iowa. From March 2 - April 20, 2007, students at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, are going to make a difference in the lives of others.

It seems like the media is saturated with stories about college students doing bad things. Binge drinking. Casual sex. Drugs. A general lack of participation in politics and religion.

The truth, though, is that today's youth are an amazing group of people. After September 11th, the number of college students volunteering went way up. And now, at Waldorf College, students will be joining with Waldorf faculty, staff, alumni and parents to serve their communities.

We are going to Mississippi to help with hurricane relief. We are going to Arizona to build Habitat homes. We are going to Washington state to serve at Holden Village. We are holding a blood drive. We are collecting supplies for Crisis Intervention Centers, Iraqi school children, underpriviledged kids, battered and abused women, and many others. Heck, we're even running from the State Capitol in Des Moines to Forest City (144 miles) in an attempt to raise $50,000 for charity.

It's an exciting time to be at Waldorf. More posts about the 50 Days are coming soon but for now I just had to share with you what's on the radar.

Hold on to your hats. 50 Days of Service is about to begin.
